WAVELENGTH SALES (877) 708-8900

Wavelength Sales Services Overview

Wavelength Services are a fully managed, private, point-to-point service delivered over a state-of-the-art dense wave division multiplexing (DWDM) network. The product is ideally suited for banks and financial institutions, government organizations, enterprise customers, interexchange carriers (IXCs) and wireless operators that require dedicated broadband transport network connectivity without the need for capital or the responsibility of owning and operating network infrastructure. We provide an end-to-end solution with a wide range of transport bandwidths including 1GbE, 2.5G (OC-48), 10G (OC-192) - SONET or SDH - and 10GbE LAN PHY. We support any special requirements with respect to interfaces, diversity, end-to-end connectivity and special routing for both metro and long-haul applications.

How Wavelength Service Works

Our providers use state of the art DWDM technology that enables several streams of digital information to be put on different wavelengths of light eliminating interference with one another. This allows transport of up to 96 channels in a single strand of fiber and translates into higher capacity and lower cost.

Protection — We offer a variety of protection configurations including point of presence (POP)-to-POP as well as premises-to-premises services. This is available for long-haul and metro applications.

Diversity — We can meet your requirements for redundancy or disaster recovery. Diversity can be configured to include POP, fiber path and node diversity. Dual entrances and fiber risers in buildings may also be available subject to confirmation of available facilities. Diversity circuits are uniquely identified in Qwest systems to ensure committed routing.

Interconnections to customer equipment (applications) — We offer a variety of interconnections with customer-owned equipment for data, video and storage protocols.

Route Diversity

Customers may purchase two Wavelength services using diverse geographical routes for enhanced security. Our providers offer diversity enhancement as an additional service to the standard Wavelength service, to assist you with minimizing operational and financial risk from network interruptions. The figure below illustrates an example of Qwest's QWave service route diversity.

SONET Overhead Transparency

Wavelength service provides transparent customer-facing interface for complete SONET overhead. As a result, customers are able to pass Data Communications Channel (DCC) information end to end, employ Automatic Protection Switching (APS), and monitor and manage the circuit by having access to all the SONET overhead bytes. DCC is specified in the SONET standards and is used for operations functions such as alarms, administration data, signal control information and maintenance messages. It uses D1-D3 and D4-D12 bytes. APS is specified in the SONET standards and uses K1 and K2 bytes.
