Wavelength Features and Benefits
High speed, high bandwidth with optical networking proficiency
Our Wavelength Service is an unprotected, bi-directional, point-to-point circuit at speeds of 2.5 Gbps and 10 Gbps. This service is a SONET/SDH framed signal and is fully compliant with ITU-T and Telcordia standards. Wavelength is a high-speed solution that allows you to efficiently manage your data network. Limited capital required, no expense associated with owning and operating an optical network infrastructure. By shifting the technology burden to us, you can avoid frequent and continuous upgrades to optical equipment and concentrate efforts on growing your core business.
Wavelength Service provides Ethernet point-to-point connectivity over a fiber-optic network using DWDM (Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing) at 10 Gigabits per second. Performance and error reporting match that of traditional SONET/SDH interfaces while costs, using LAN PHY, may be significantly lower. In addition to potentially dramatic cost savings, most network managers are familiar with Ethernet interfaces in the Local Area Network (LAN) environment and will easily make a smooth transition to supporting wavelength service in your Wide Area Network (WAN).
Wavelength service fills the gap between dark fiber and traditional private line or capacity services. Wavelength enables network providers to provide fully-managed IP and SONET services without having to deploy optronics or manage their own dispersed networks.
A Comprehensive Wavelength Solution
Beyond the peace of mind that comes with knowing your network is extremely reliable, we offer a comprehensive communications solution that includes these benefits:
1. End-to-end transparency, giving you greater visibility and control of your broadband services for more effective network management.
2. Privately-owned fiber and repeater stations enabling you to focus on core competencies, relieving the burden of network management.
3. Lower financial expenditure of network ownership thus preserving capital resources
4. Ability to be configured to meet disaster recovery requirements combined with a customer-facing monitoring portal
5. World-class service level agreements from 99.9 percent (unprotected) to 99.999 percent (protected-on an individual case basis)
6. Provides dedicated broadband transport network connectivity without the need for capital or the responsibility of owning and operating network infrastructure
7. Custom solutions ensure the highest level of security and performance to support mission-critical applications
8. Offers custom routing to meet unique diversity and disaster recovery requirements
9. Low latency
10. Unprotected or protected service options with industry leading SLAs
11. Monitored 24/7 network control center (NCC) includes fault management of network transport alarms, surveillance, dispatch and fix verification/tracking
Benefits of Working with our Wavelength Service Providers
Delivering proven experience and leadership in backbone solutions
Your dedicated team of network architects is the same group responsible for designing the provider's Network. With proven experience in building, managing, and maintaining customer backbone solutions, we’re committed to collaborative network design.
Investing to scale with your business
Significant, ongoing investments in network scale make Level 3 a partner that can support your growth. In the last year, we’ve overbuilt the vast majority of the network with next-gen DWDM to respond more quickly to your growing capacity needs.
Ensuring quality and performance
Our facilities-based network has fully mirrored, 24 x 7 Network Operations Centers (NOCs) in three different time zones. We ensure diversity by minimizing network spurs and collapsed intercity rings; building diverse laterals and offering physical, electrical, and dual-gateway diversity options. When your high bandwidth, survivable applications require diversity, Level 3 offers you a broad portfolio of physical transport routes. For example, Level 3 is one of the few global network operators that offers three or more physically distinct routes in and out of 72 North American cities, and 4, 5 or 6 routes out of some major markets.
